The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2013. It is a full-fledged academic department for emerging Civil Engineers. The Department provides outstanding teaching and research environment. The Department offers for Admission in 4 years B.Tech. course with an intake of 30 students and 2 years M. Tech. course with an intake of 18 students. The Department has an objective to produce quality engineers to meet the ever growing demand for technical manpower in the Civil Engineering arena. The Ministry of Human Resources Development India recognized the department and funded NIT Manipur.


To excel in graduate and post graduate instruction, in leading technological and socio-economic development of the state, region and nation by enhancing the global competitiveness of technical manpower and by ensuring value based education through dissemination of best-in-class knowledge, insights and intellectual contributions.


To create, disseminate and integrate knowledge of engineering, science and technology that expands our civil engineering knowledge base, which in turn enables the betterment of human society and maintain an intellectually challenging, yet supportive and welcoming environment that encourages and enables our students, faculty and staff to achieve their best in a diverse community.


  • To prepare graduates who will be successful professionals in civil engineering or a related field,
  • To prepare graduates who will understand professional practice issues and  will contribute to society as broadly educated, expressive, ethical and responsible citizens with proven expertise.
  • To prepare graduates will have the ability to pursue graduate study in civil engineering or other fields,
  • To prepare graduates who will be able to achieve excellence in engineering decision-making and design, and attain leadership careers in engineering practice,
  • To prepare graduates who are expected to work effectively as responsible professionals independently or in teams handling increasingly complex professional and societal expectations. 



  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals and their application to the solution of problems
  • Completion of a broad-based curriculum rich in liberal studies intended to raise awareness of cultural contexts and societal issues
  • Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching justified conclusions using principles of engineering
  • Design solutions for complex engineering problems that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations
  • Develop an ability to design and conduct experiments as well as to analyze and interpret data
  • Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development
  • Develop an ability to function effectively as an individual, and on multidisciplinary teams
  • Develop an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility and norms of the engineering practice
