Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme starting in July 2017. The disciplines, areas, eligibility criteria and seats in which the Programme is proposed to be offered (but not limited to) are:

*No NET/GATE is required for sponsored, Part time and project candidates.

Categories of Ph. D. Students:

The Institute shall admit PhD students under the following categories:
  • a) Regular (Full Time): Scholars under this category shall work full time for the PhD courses/research. They may receive fellowship offered by the Institute as per MHRD norms.
  • b) Sponsored: Recognized R&D organizations, national institutions, other universities, government organizations or industries may sponsor research scholars. They shall be admitted through the normal process, and they shall not be entitled to any fellowship/assistantship from the Institute. They shall work full time for the PhD courses/research.
  • c) Project Fellow: Scholars working on different research projects at the Institute may be admitted to the PhD Programme provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria, subject to the consent of the Principal Investigator of the project.
  • d) Part Time: Scholars employed in academic institutions/ universities (including NIT Manipur)/ R&D organizations may be considered for admission into the PhD Programme of the Institute, following the normal admission procedures. They shall fulfil the stipulated requirements for PhD admission.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission into PhD Programme (Please refer Table 1 for more details):

For Engineering : Master’s degree in appropriate branch of Engineering/Technology for admission in Engineering with consistently good academic record and a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA/CPI in Master degree (Candidates with B.E./ BTech. with an aggregate of 70% marks or equivalent CGPA/CPI with valid GATE score will also be eligible)

For Science: Master’s degree in appropriate branch of Science with NET or valid GATE for admission in Science with consistently good academic record and a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA/CPI in Master degree..)

Relaxation for SC/ST/PD Candidates:

Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA/CPI for SC/ST/PD category applicants.

Selection Procedure:

NET/GATE qualified candidates will be exempted from the written examination. The admission to Ph.D. Programme will be on the basis of weightage as given below:

  • • Overall academic performance (to be fixed by the PhD Admission Committee) :     70%
  • • Interview conducted by the Department :     30%

Syllabus of the Entrance Examination

The syllabus for the entrance examination will be the GATE syllabus of the concerned discipline or syllabus prescribed by the concerned departments.

Reservation

Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC and PD categories shall be as per MHRD norms. OBC candidates will have to enclose certificate. Latest OBC Certificate (issued after 01-04-2017) issued by competent authority shall only be acceptable.

Stipend / Scholarship/ Financial Assistance

Assistantship to the regular students as per MHRD rules may be given subject to availability of fund.

Counselling and Admission of PhD programme

  •     Visit institute website: www.nitmanipur.ac.in regularly for more details and updates.
  •     No written test will be held if sufficient number of GATE/NET qualified candidates is available.
  •     Those Candidates who qualify GATE/NET will be given preference.
Application Checklist

Hardcopy of the filled up Online form should be submitted with the photocopied of the following documents:

  • i.   Photocopy of marks sheet/Grade card of the secondary, higher secondary board and other university examinations.
  • ii.   Photocopy of proof of date of birth.
  • iii.   Photocopy of proper category (OBC/SC/ST/PD etc.) certificate from the competent authority.
  • iv.   Form I/II/III/IV in Appendix I.
  • v.   Four passport size photographs. .
  • vi.   Bank receipt
Legal Jurisdiction:

All other cases, not covered in PhD Ordinances shall be referred to the Senate. All disputes pertaining to the counselling and admission for the Ph.D. programme of NIT Manipur shall fall within the jurisdiction of Imphal, Manipur only.
